About the painting:

I know at least two dominant parts of my personality. One part of me is resilient, strong, capable, grounded, connected, her energy is powerful and generous, her knowing is unwavering, her intuition is strong, her body is healthy, her heart is open and unafraid.
She is who helped me through so much in my life. She is the one that assured my survival through some pretty awful stuff. I consider her my true self.
And then there is that other part of me that's barely limping along. She is wounded, afraid, prone to sadness, anxiety and suffering. She expects the worst in every situation and cowers in fear.
While I very much hid the latter me in my younger days, I find that I invest so much more time and energy in the "weak" one now. I tend to her. I help her heal. I soothe her in all the ways possible.
Nothing wrong with that. She is the part of me that needs more tending. However, it's a slippery slope. Because in focusing so much more on the weaker, suffering and broken parts, I often forget the other very strong, capable one.
The truth is, neither of them are more important. Neither can be without the other. They are both me. They both need each other. The task is to weave them together, not to get rid of the "weaker" parts. That's where suffering lives. In the shutting out parts of ourselves. Finding ways to have them both present, means all the elements of my humanness can belong.
(Inspired by a Sarah Blondin meditation)
